Caroline Mauxion parle de pratiquer une photographie plutôt que d'une pratique photographique. Elle cherche à exploiter autant la matérialité d'une image photographique que sa capacité de représentation. L'acte photographique est fait d'un contact à la fois tangible et non visible, d'une rencontre entre lumière et surface sensible. Ce passage de l'imperceptible au tangible, l'apparition de matière par contact, est un point récurrent dans son travail. Ses projets s'inspirent de micro-évènements et puisent souvent dans des œuvres littéraires. Elle aborde ses photographies comme une matière première qu'elle manipule et met en espace. Par des prises de vue in situ, des gestes à même l'image ou des impressions sur d'autres supports, elle déplace, transforme ou encore vide ses images.

Caroline Mauxion a finalisé sa maîtrise en arts visuels et médiatiques à l'UQAM en 2016 et fut lauréate du prix Sylvie et Simon Blais pour la relève en arts visuels en 2015. Elle compte plusieurs expositions individuelles à Montréal (Les Territoires, la Galerie de l'UQAM, Optica Centre d'art contemporain, la Galerie Simon Blais) et exposera à la Galerie B312 en 2019. Ses œuvres ont récemment intégré La collection Prêt d’œuvres d’art du Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec.

Rather than engaging in the practice of the photographic image, Caroline Mauxion explains that her work consists of practicing the photographic image. She seeks to explore the photographic image at once in its materiality and its representational capacity. The photographic act is made up of both the tangible and non-visible, of an encounter between light with a sensitive surface. This passage from the imperceptible to the tangible, this appearance of the material by way of contact is a recurrent focus in her work. Her projects are inspired by micro-events and often draw on literary works. She approaches her photographs as a raw material that she manipulates and arranges in space. Through site-specific shots, direct interventions on the image or prints on other supports, she displaces, transforms or even empties her images.

Caroline Mauxion completed her MFA at UQAM in 2016 and she was the winner of the Sylvie and Simon Blais Award for emerging talent in the visual arts in 2015. She has held several solo exhibition in Montreal (Les Territoires, Galerie de l'UQAM, Optica Centre d'art contemporain, Galerie Simon Blais) and will exhibit at Galerie B312 in 2019. Her works were recently included in the Art Loan Collection of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec.
