Presidency of the parliament: the deduction of one million dinars for each session absent Vice

30th April, 2019

The Presidency of the House of Representatives sent official books to its members who echoed the oath and did not attend any session involving the deduction of one million dinars from each deputy who miss one session.

A member of the parliamentary affairs committee, Emanuel Khoshaba, said in a press statement on Tuesday that "this deduction will be imposed on absentee MPs in case the absence is illegal and illegal and not leave." LINK

IMO, if they really want to solve the absentee problem this is a start but not enough. Budgets are designated for the year and so are the monies for the ministry. So, divide the budget into 365 parts (to reflect the days of the year) and for every day they are absent they do not get the monies designated for that time period.

My guess is what is happening is a big chunk of money is given the minister and he then dispurses to various projects while hes paying himself. We will never get rid of corruption is this is the case.

The part where it makes it illegal to "not leave"....this, imo, eliminates the possibility of the old habit of "lack of quorum" that crippled the government in the past.
