'Food for thought' regarding humanitarian projects addressing poverty...
This is an excellent video on understanding the cause of much poverty on this earth. He looks at traditional agricultural practices that over decades, centuries, and millennium have caused desertification of former lands of 'milk and honey'.
John Liu gets people to rethink and redo traditional farming practices, and do earthworks as needed to optimize water retention in the soil and watershed. The result is a transformed landscape, once again capable of supporting people and wildlife. Restoration examples include China's Loess Plateau, Jordan, Ethiopia and Rwanda. In Jordan, plant species thought extinct since the 1800s were found growing when the land was allowed to recover. People transformed as well when food security returned to formerly degraded land.
