According to the International Astronomical Union, the start of the Age of Aquarius won't happen until the year 2600. I believe in starting things early, but not 600 years early.
We are still in the Age of Pisces, probably the oldest of the modern constellations, having been mentioned by the Egyptians in 2300 CE.
But it's not like people didn't recognize constellations before the Egyptians. They were called by different names and some were of different star groups.
Interestingly, many of the animal carvings in ancient sites around the world, may be symbols of constellations. Recently, a group of investigators at the very old site of Goblekli Tepe have come up with a striking interpretation of the carvings of one of the enigmatic T-stones which has numerous carvings in relief of some interesting animals and objects.
By assuming that the animals represented various constellations and calculating their positions with respect to each other on the T-stone, the researchers were able to match their position to the time when they were so aligned.
That date was about 11,600 years ago, about the time that the last ice age, the Younger Dryas, ended and the worlds oceans rose over 400 feet. Apparently, it was a monument to remember the incident. Coincidentally, this is roughly the time when Plato said Atlantis sunk.
Happy New Year to everyone. Hope the RV finally goes and we can stop leaving on the edge of our seats.
