Father's Day is not as respected and popularly observed as Mother's Day. There is a simple reason for this. Although almost everyone has difficult issues with their mothers, there is no doubt as to their mother's love. The same is not true for fathers. Because men have a more difficult time expressing their feelings to their children, many children go through life with the mistaken notion that their fathers don't love them. This is a tragedy because fathers generally love their children dearly and often work long hours so that they can raise their children in comfort.

It has always boggled my mind how a public official goes into office with a relatively modest net worth, and once leaving office, becomes a multi-millionaire. And the public doesn’t inquire as to how that happened?
The Obamas entered into office with a total net worth of $1.3 million. Based on estimates of income from speeches, book deals and pensions they will rake in over $250 million from being our president. So much for the idea of serving the public and the concept of public service. Keep in mind the annual salary for a U.S. president is a little over $400,000. His pension is $200,000 for life.
In addition to all the relationships established being a president to be utilized after leaving office, also consider the expenses taken from the tax payers for household expenses, vacations and travel. Barack Obama spent about $1.4 billion in household expenses each year he was president (that was Billion with a “B”), and that figure did NOT include the cost of running the White House’s policy operations, doing the job he was elected to perform. His wife, Michelle Obama, had more personal staff than any other First lady in History. Who do you think paid those salaries? Were they serving the public or was the public serving them?
And as part of the ongoing boondoggle of presidential travel, the helicopter fleet: $300 million. (Over $3.3 billion was spent designing a new presidential helicopter fleet, which Obama canceled, the helicopters-already built- were sold to Canada for $154 million)
When Bill Clinton took office in 1993, the Clintons net worth was $1.2 million. In his first 15 years after leaving office they grossed over $153 million for 729 speeches, earning an average of $210,795 per speech. The Clintons have turned his presidency into a money-making machine. There isn’t enough space to mention all the other evil s..t they pulled off.
To put this in context, consider that George Bush Sr. grew his fortune from a reported $ 4 million ( key word “reported”) before taking office to $23 million before his death. George Bush Jr. entered office with $20 million and is now estimated over $35 million. Not too unreasonable.
Richard Nixon had $2 million when he took office in 1969 and even after being kicked out of office, was worth $15 million at the time of his death in 1994. Gerald Ford spent just three as a president, entering office in 1974 with $1.4 million in net worth and had amassed $7 million by the time of his death in 2006. Still not unreasonable.
Jimmy Carter on the other hand, left office in debt. Having turned over the running of his family business to a trust that tanked his revenue stream. Since then he has written over 16 books and co-authored more, rebuilding what appears to have been a lost fortune.
Across the board, officials holding public office increase their net worth from holding the office. Congressman, Senators, Councilmen, Governors Etc. There is something inherently wrong with abusing or taking advantage of, a public office for future financial gains. The spirit of holding a public offices was the privilege of serving others but has morphed into a financial venture. How this has been allowed and even nourished boggles the imagination.
Our government is insolvent. Something has to change. That change needs to start at the top. We’ll just have to wait and find out if the current administration sees similar gains, or becomes the first modern chief executive to net NO financial benefit from holding the highest office in the land.
