"The Magic Wand to End Poverty and Oppression" by Lazarus - 7.11.20

You can stop looking for it because there isn’t any. So, what are we to do? The key point and my ONLY area of focus can be summarized in one word “EMPOWERMENT”. Empowerment does not happen overnight. It takes time. It is tedious and one must overcome all obstacles, as there will be many placed in your path, when you attempt to disrupt the status quo.

Having grown up in a poor inner city community I’ve witnessed those that made it out. Many ask, “Why don’t they come back and help their own?” Many, if not most, have tried. That effort was met with a great deal of resistance as the powers in charge do not like disruptions to their welfare plantation model. So they are chased out. It will not be different for you. This is a battle you must be prepared to take on, otherwise please steer clear; both for your sake and theirs.

Thus you have to be prepared to build in “parallel” to what exists and allow for an “organic” transition to occur, rather than a combative one. Folks, let’s be honest. It’s all broken, and it all needs to come down. You don’t just throw money at it, and expect the problem to go away. That mentality will leave things worse in the end, than you found them.

It will require a hundred posts to even scratch the surface as to the endless list that needs to be addressed. I will highlight a few key ones as food for thought. Education – general curriculum or vocational, is literally non-existent. You cannot tackle the unions & politicians. Thus it would have to be a private, not for profit, alternative that would need to be implemented from the ground up. Jobs - opportunity zones were a great start and it begins to bring jobs back into neighborhoods. But empowering those within the community to embrace entrepreneurship is true Empowerment. Incarceration - in the absence of education & rehabilitation it is not only fruitless, it decimates and entire generation of people. Considering the bulk of our prison population are non violent offenders, it is truly a missed opportunity to Empower these folks to reenter society being better off than they were prior to incarceration & give them a fighting chance. The greatest “Privilege” anyone can enjoy in our society, regardless of race is to grow up in a two parent home (please research the endless data available on this matter).

You see poverty is blind. It sees no race; no religion; no ethnicity or sex. It “Equally” adversely affects everyone. With some of the current fabricated racial unrest, there have been talks along the lines of reparations. In a discussion I had with a Ph.D. and education administrator from the D.C. are, who had grown up in the civil rights movement (and knows what real racism looks like) her contribution to this discussion was priceless; and I quote “Reparations in the absence of preparation are worthless”. And she is dead right. I am sure we all have some young family member, and can thus relate, realizing that if we throw money at them it will hurt them; and in many cases, decimate them. Unfortunately, this will also be the reality across a wide spectrum of situations (which is why I bring up the reparations example); as you CANNOT just throw money at a problem and expect it to go away. If you are not prepared to make the commitment; to do the work; to roll your sleeves up and get dirty, please stay out of the fight. Use your financial ability to empower others that are prepared to make the necessary commitment.

So, as with anything else worthwhile, it will take hard work, commitment and TIME. You have to build a new (you cannot put new wine in old skins – Mt. 9:17).

In closing, please understand WE are ALL very lucky to be able to call the U.S. our home. As over two & a half Billion people on earth live on less than two dollars a day. “Poor” is a relative term. What we consider poor; even our citizens on welfare, would be deemed wealthy by their standards. Gays in the Middle East are still being killed and thrown from roof tops. Women in many countries are still considered property. The nation of Islam currently has more slaves than in the entire history of the US combined. You see we ALL get to enjoy “American” privilege. The American dream. The American freedom. And even though it is FAR from perfect, it is still the greatest place on the planet to call home.

God’s speed,

Lazarus
