"The New Penny" by Jeff - 8.14.20
This is in response to Jeff's post about the new penny.
In a quick eBay search I found several of these coins up for sale, they're called a US Treasury Token, one seller dates them as minted in 1982, Denver Mint versions are also available.
They're worth about .57 cents
The question I have is why would a coin meant to go into circulation have the word Uncirculated on it?
US Treasury Tokens are not meant for circulation, their size is a little different than circulated coins and can't be used in vending machines.
The only purpose I can see for these coins is for a collectable item.
Jeff says they have many of these coins at his grocery store, if what Jeff is saying is true it brings up another question, has the US Treasury minted exact size Tokens to replace all Federal Reserve coins?
