I see the foreshadowing of a $1200 and quite possibly the $2000 stimulus check DJT has referenced. And possibly even $2000 for 6 months -- that may morph into UBI.
Sidenote: I asked a human services phone attendant back in April what he knew about stimulus payments. He told me there was discussion about $2000 a month for 6 months.
I believe that if he heard that 4 months ago and Mnuchin and Trump are revving that engine, then that it is quite likely to happen soon.
I also would like to reiterate that to me UBI isn't socialism, it is gas in the engine of capitalism. If the government funds disability, unemployment, SS, and endless social programs, If the homeless need constant attention, If crime costs everyone large sums of money -- then it is remedy.
If crime directly correlates to desperation that in turn ignites crime then $2000 a month is a brilliant way to not only erase most desperation but to reduce expenditures on the social problems created in part by needy desperation.
Consumerism is the engine. People with some black digits in their accounts will be patrons to businesses. It is the turbine.
Consumerism should be seen as a job in itself. It takes effort to go places and do things. What's the point of creating anything if no one is there to consume it.
And $2000 as the floor with an infinite ceiling to start businesses, pursue careers, or to work additional jobs that they actually enjoy. Some people like hard work. Some people enjoy social interactions of customer service. Some people want to have the luxury of training themselves for bigger and better opportunities.
A person who chooses to not get in traffic every day and join the rat race will not clog highways, burden hospitals and ambulances and cops with accidents, and save society money.
Who are these twisted control freaks who aren't happy unless everyone is miserable?
I see the sun coming up but I am the sort of vigilant warrior who refuses to pull the stake from the vampires heart.
Especially now that signs say we are finally winning. My future posts aren't negative when I stand over the control freak and demand, "Stay down mother fugger"
I have a lot more to say about the psychological rapists who have made us subservient victims for hundreds of years and hell if I am going to pretend they aren't still there waiting to rise again.
