Saudi Arabia and Iraq open the border crossing of Arar economic and political repercussions

- 5 Hours Ago Researcher Shatha Khalil *

Iraq and Saudi Arabia are seeking to reopen Arar border post between the two countries after being closed for 30 years.

Arar is one of the important border crossings between Saudi Arabia and Iraq, whether economically, politically or even socially.

Iraq has a land border with Saudi Arabia of about 800 kilometers, extending from Anbar westward to Muthanna in the south.

The reopening of the New Arar border port is of economic importance in increasing the trade exchange between the two countries, facilitating the movement of Iraqi pilgrims and Umrah, and strengthening the ties and family and tribal ties between the two countries.

It is located at the Iraqi-Saudi border (97 km) southwest of Iraq's Nukhayb district, 50 km north of Arar. The Arar border crossing is 600 km (70 miles) west of Baghdad.
Since 2003, it was not officially opened during the pilgrimage season to promote the Iraqi pilgrims to Mecca, and has two tracks passes through the province of Karbala, and the second within the province of Anbar.

The Arar port is the official and approved between the two countries for more than 50 years, until its closure in 1991, that is during the Second Gulf War, and its use has been limited during the past years to facilitate the entry of Iraqi pilgrims every General as we mentioned.

The economic, social and cultural importance of the new port Arar:

The importance of Arar border port between Iraq and Saudi Arabia can not be limited to economic or tourist importance, but is characterized by political and security status for the benefit of various political parties, whether international or local.

Arar connects Iraq with the shortest way to reach many countries in the north of Saudi Arabia. The economic exchange in its various fields will be more effective and influential, which will have a positive impact on many aspects, including social, cultural and even political rapprochement.

Iraq is an Arab country with many of Saudi Arabia's closest ties in the region, especially in relation to the Kingdom with the longest land borders, and they share in terms of belief, history, geography and man. link

What is the IMF's problem with Iraq?

Haidar Mortada

Finance International Monetary Fund Iraq

First, it is important to know that the problem of the IMF is not with Iraq, but with the policies of state institutions in Iraq, which are considered inefficient in managing the economy of the country, which forced the country to borrow time after time.

What is the IMF in Iraq ?!

Again, it is important to know that the IMF is not a profitable institution, but an advisory institution that pays contributions to countries to join this global institution, in exchange for these countries to receive advice and financial support in critical times.

What do we mean by critical times ?!

A third time, when you hear the news of a state resorting to the IMF, it is important to understand implicitly that this country has a bad history of wrong policies and that it has been so heavily entrenched that countries and international banks no longer wish to lend to this country because of its mismanagement of the economy.

In the sense that the IMF does not go to the states to advise them whatever their policies are wrong and destructive! It is the countries that go to the International Monetary Fund to ask for its advice and support, when it is about to sink into the quagmire of bankruptcy!

Examples of wrong policies include:

The CBI's "currency auction" policy is one of the most important files criticized by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which it considers an illogical policy in managing the country's economy.

From the point of view of CBI, the fixed exchange rate is a policy to maintain price stability and market support, all in order to help the poor class of the people. This is undoubtedly Sami's goal.

From the point of view of IMF experts, the CBI can be linked as a charity to help the poor, then go to the market and spread money to passers-by!

The poor will get the money they need, but the money will be shared by the privileged, wealthy and traders in the market.

Therefore, the IMF believes that this economic policy and other policies, which are wasting the wealth of Iraq in vain without being reflected on the lives of its citizens ..

What is the IMF proposing ?!

What the IMF proposes is the same as the logic of reason and the sound economic sense that support must be directed to support the basic needs of the poor and low-income strata. It is unreasonable that all the people, including the affluent, the rich and the wealthy, are supported. This support.

For its part, countries are not bound by these mechanisms. They can formulate mechanisms and propose structural reforms, which, if committed to their implementation, will succeed in eliminating the fiscal deficit in their budget, eliminate corruption and pay not only the IMF's receivables but also the entitlements of States and international institutions. link

In other words...IMO...STOP the auctions and raise the rate!!!! NOW!!!

I agree with Frank and teams in saying that if they don't do this now, then what's been the use of all the steps they have taken over the past two years or so to get to this point?

It would make NO sense at all!!

Praying that they will finally go through with this and raise the value of their currency for the people of Iraq and for us!

It seems the pressure is on Iraq to the breaking point and they Must do it now!!! IMO!!

In a historical precedent .. Emperor of Japan abdicate

Japanese Emperor Akihito relinquished the throne of the Chrysanthemum on Tuesday, 30 years after he took power in the first abdication in more than 200 years.

Akihito left the throne of chrysanthemums after the death of his father Emperor Hirohito in 1989, according to the traditional arrangement of succession in Japan, the 125th member of the oldest dynasty in the world.

The 85-year-old Imperial Akihito and his wife, Michiko, will become the imperial post of the throne, according to the Imperial Palace News Agency.

Crown Prince Naruhito, 59, Akihito's eldest son, will also hold a formal ceremony on Wednesday.

The audience will have an opportunity to meet with the new emperor, his wife Empress Masako, 55, and other members of the imperial family on May 4.

Akihito expressed his desire to abdicate in 2016, citing reasons for concern that his old age and poor health would prevent him from performing his official duties as a symbol of the state.

Because the Emperor has no political authority, he can not discuss the question of his abdication directly, and in June 2017 the Parliament passed only one-time legislation that could abdicate.
