The New York Times: Trump orders a military strike against Iran and then recedes during the flight
BAGHDAD (Reuters)
- US President Donald Trump ordered an air strike against Iranian targets in retaliation for the downing of a US aircraft, the New York Times reported Friday.
"The planes flew towards their targets and the ships were stationed to bomb Iranian military positions, before the order came back.
Trump retracted the decision for unknown reasons," the newspaper said.
"The White House refused to comment on the incident, as was the Pentagon, and no US government has agreed to give any clarification so far." link

Baghdad today - follow-up
Gold prices hit their highest level in nearly six years on Thursday after the US Federal Reserve hinted at its willingness to cut interest rates, possibly by next month, to boost growth.
Precious metal prices touched $ 1400 an ounce, trading at their highest level since early September 2013.
Following the central bank's hints, the dollar index fell 0.5 percent to 96.64 points, its biggest two-day decline since February 2018.
Low interest rates are pushing the dollar, making gold cheaper for investors than other currency holders. link
