Natalie Birecki est une artiste-pédagogue multidisciplinaire d’origine polonaise établie au Saguenay depuis 2013. Sa pratique artistique explore les dualités opposantes générées par ses dessins ironiques à l’encontre d’éléments folkloriques.

Natalie Birecki expose parfois un art dérangeant qui met en lumière des univers surréels. Dans la microédition, Calinsutra, l’artiste propose une esthétique naïve qui contredit les narrations mélancoliques ou sarcastiques, plongeant le spectateur dans une réflexion contemplative sur un onirisme sombre. Faisant écho à l’artisanat folklorique, les dessins, ornés de motifs répétitifs, illustrent des mises en scène de personnages qui baignent dans la marge où la frontière entre le réel et l’irréel se confondent. En juxtaposant son interprétation de l’art de câliner avec des narrations malaisantes, le Calinsutra incarne une fiction troublante.

Natalie Birecki is a multidisciplinary artist-educator of Polish origin, who has resided in Saguenay since 2013. Her artistic practice explores the conflicting dualities generated by her ironic drawings that draw on folkloric elements.

Natalie Birecki at times exhibits a disturbing art that foregrounds surreal worlds. In the micro-publication, Calinsutra, the artist proposes a naïve aesthetic that challenges melancholy or sarcastic narratives by immersing the viewer in a contemplative reflection about a dark dreaminess. Echoing folkloric crafts, her repetitive motif drawings illustrate the doings of characters who inhabit the liminal space where the border between the real and the unreal is blurred. In juxtaposing the artist’s interpretation of the art of cuddling with provocative narratives, the Calinsutra embodies a troubling fiction.
